Family Bliss On The Go to Marvel Day at Sea on Disney Cruise
We booked a Disney Cruise to Mexico for February 2026 and went with two boys (ages 7 and 10). When we figured out we could do that on one of their Marvel Day at Sea cruise ships, we knew it was meant to be! We took the Disney Magic from Galveston, Texas, with two port stops (Progresso and Cozumel, Mexico). There were two days at sea, with one being the Marvel Day at Sea.
If you've never taken a Disney cruise, be prepared with your phone to take a video of your kids as they first step onto the boat. The hosts announce your family name over the microphone to welcome you, people are clapping/greeting you, and the boat is mesmerizing when you first walk in. Trust me, your kids will be in awe! That first day, there's always a safety briefing that everyone has to go to, so just prep your kids in advance that it's a requirement and may be a little boring for a bit, but there's plenty of time to explore the boat and have fun and they'll get there! We played word games like I Spy and the alphabet game to entertain the kids as we stood waiting there for a bit. Then, there is the sailaway party when the boat takes off. With Disney cruises, this includes a show on the top deck that includes Mickey and friends. Kids, especially younger kids, will love this. But everyone will feel the magic of starting out on this journey.
On Disney cruises, there is a giant TV next to the pool that is almost constantly playing Disney movies. This means any time you go to get food on deck, you can watch a movie while you eat. The kids love being in the pool while watching a movie, and we also often enjoyed a movie while we waited for our time to get off the boat on port days.
Like all cruises, there are constant food options available "for free" any time, as well as the regular meal times. We typically just grabbed the cafeteria style food near the deck for meals except dinner because we didn't want to waste too much time sitting down at a restaurant. Disney cruises also have "Eye Scream" which is a Monsters Inc themed self-serve of soft-serve ice cream cones by the pool deck. They change and have specialty flavors at some of the machines different days, so it's not always just vanilla, chocolate, or twist.
Just like on all cruises, you are assigned to different dinners/restaurants each evening. You have a table number that is your assigned seat, and you have the same servers every night (they change restaurants and just follow you). Our kids loved getting to know our servers, who were so friendly and wonderful with kids.
In addition to regular servers being amazing at dinners, there is also entertainment a few nights. For example, the night you eat at the Disney Animation dining room is AMAZING. Trust me, it's so enjoyable. On the last night on the boat, there's a show or celebration. We were in the Rapunzel dining room, so characters came around and put on a little show.
Throughout the ship, there are a variety of different things to keep you and your kids busy. There's the pool deck with pool and hot tub and that giant TV I mentioned, plus food options. There's a movie theater that shows Disney/Marvel movies all the time. There are live shows (like musicals) in the evenings, and you're assigned to watch one on given nights. Our kids really loved these. There are sports areas, waterslides, an adults-only area, a spa, and they often have activities or fun events happening in different rooms/lounges that you can go to as a family (like trivia, Bingo, etc.). And the top place for our kids: the kid rooms. On Disney cruises, there are two different kids rooms, plus an older kid/teen room. The age changes after 10, so 10yo kids are allowed to go to either the kids rooms or the older/teen room. I will say, I'm so totally impressed with the sign in/out process and the cleanliness of kids rooms on Disney cruises. They have an AWESOME handwashing machine/station for when kids are entering and leaving. Every place kids go should always include these!! The kids rooms have toys/play areas, a variety of activities lead by the staff, coloring/drawing/tracing areas, and sometimes video games or computer games. You will get a list of possible timed activities happening there (and all over the ship) on your Disney Cruise Line app once you're on the boat, so you can plan out your days.
On Disney Cruise Lines, one of the Days at Sea offers a princess meeting time. It's free, but you have to sign up for it when it releases. I typically set an alarm on my calendar when it is close enough to schedule things, so you don't miss out on anything you want to sign up for.
Even if you don't sign up for the princess meeting time, you are bound to run in to characters from time to time just walking around the boat.
And on the last night on the ship, there is a farewell party with Mickey and friends to have one final celebration!
And now, the best part of this ship, what is Marvel Day at Sea?? One of the days at sea was themed with Marvel. This included times that people were dressed up as the superheroes and/or villains, and you can stand in line to meet them and get pictures with them.
All of the different timed activities/events throughout the day (like the trivia and Bingo that I mentioned earlier) are Marvel themed. The kids' club activities are all Marvel themed that day, including making crafts like Iron Man swords. So many people on the boat dress up in Marvel costumes, like Comicon-level dress-up! Any one who dresses up and wants to participate can walk up on stage with others dressed similarly, for other guests to view the different costumes.
One of the highlights for me on this cruise was when I realized the person who was dressed up behind me in line to meet a character was the Youtuber who runs Mammoth Club! If you don't know this channel, it is a go-to for me when I was planning Disney trips, such as the Halloween or Christmas party trips. I was a bit star-struck, and she was so nice and agreed to take a picture with me. I highly recommed Mammoth Club if you need tips on any type of Disney-related trip!
Mickey and characters dress up in costumes too. Even your dinner gets in on the Marvel-theme, and your towel at turn-down service (if you haven't been on cruises before, every night there is a towel shaped like something different to greet you on your bed at night)--our towel was a Thor hammer.
There is a Mickey and friends Marvel dance party/show on the deck right after dinnertime, which is perfect for younger kids. My 7yo was very into it. And there is an IMPRESSIVE Marvel themed show on the deck with the superheroes fighting the villains, camera work, ziplines for people to "fly," fireworks, etc. later at night. We all LOVED this show. You need to go up on the deck early enough to get a spot for these shows, so I suggest getting some of that free Eye Scream to help the kids with the wait on deck!
If you have kids who are into Marvel, I 10000% recommend taking a Disney Marvel Day at Sea cruise. This was such an enjoyable and fun day for them.
